EHNE-Bizkaia, Bizilur and EHESK, together with support from Hands on the Land alliance partners TNI, FIAN and ECVC invite you to join the first International Seminar on Local Public Policies for Food Sovereignty.
Register and see the programme on the seminar website!
Under the banner of ‘feeding public policies’, the seminar will provide a space to discuss, exchange ideas, share experiences and initiatives between relevant actors who are currently working to develop public policies for food sovereignty.
The event will take place on November 16 and 17, 2016 in San Sebastian in the Basque Country, Spain. Simultaneous translation to accommodate Spanish and English speakers will be provided.
Building upon the research ‘Sowing sovereignties’ (pdf), highlighting local experiences in the Basque Country that might serves as examples of good practices in terms of how local public policies can foster food sovereignty by promoting sustainable local food system, the seminar moves forward this process of building knowledge by extending the attention to experiences at the European level as well as other iconic examples from others regions of the world.
You are invited to join, and add your contributions to a collective effort to determine the role of local public policies – and how these relate to other scales of governance – and of citizens (food producers and consumers) in the development and construction of food sovereignty in our communities.
The seminar will address questions such as:
• What is the content of a local public policy to promote food sovereignty?
• What kinds of experiences are currently underway from which we can draw lessons?
• How can we promote similar processes with effective and widespread participation of other local authorities and civil society organisations?
• What alliances can we strengthen with other organisations and constituencies working for a transition toward fairer economies?
We hope to see you in San Sebastian in November!
